Looking for the best drones is a hobby of ours. Looking for a Drone this holiday? And I’m not talking about the Star Wars type. Parrot just unveiled a new version to their Bebop, the Bebop 2.
So your first question is what’s the difference between the Bebop 1 and the Bebop 2. Simple: battery life. The new Bebop, the Bebop 2 can now stay afloat for 25 minutes, almost doubling the flight time of the older version of the drone. This is thanks to a larger battery that now stands at 2700 mAh. Course, the Bebop now weighs a bit more than its predecessor; 500 grams versus 400. But that’s a moot issue.
On board the Bebop 2 has the same 180 degree fish eye lens camera with 3-axis video stabilization. Behind it is a 14 megapixel sensor and of course the ability to capture full HD video to its 8GB of on board storage.
Top horizontal speed of the Bebop two is an impressive 37mph. That’s pretty zippy for an almost entry level drone. Sure, it takes 14 seconds to reach that speed, and you’ll likely not have eyes on the drone at this point (it will be far away), but it’s a respectable speed nonetheless. That said, the Bebop can climb to a max altitude of 328 feet at up to 13mph, which means you can be floating above the city’s skyline in less than 20 seconds.
Like the Parrot AR Drone, you can operate the Bebop 2 just using a smartphone or tablet allowing for some automated Drone flying. But spare yourself that painstaking process and nab the Skycontroller. It hooks up to any tablet or smartphone and lets you control the Bebop 2 with much greater accuracy. Moreover, manning a drone with a physical controller is an all together more pleasurable experience.
The Bebop 2 goes on sale December 14th for $550. With the Skycontroller – the Black Edition package – it will cost $800.
