A whopping 75% of electronic and appliance reviews are untrustworthy. That’s why every reviewer gets a Trust Rating so our True Score System filters out the fake reviews. See how we do it.

Table of Contents

We assembled a list of the best pastry cutters, preferring models that were easy to clean or dishwasher safe, made of high-quality stainless steel, good for a variety of uses, built with comfortable, no-slip grips where applicable, and a good value. A pastry vutter is one of the best kitchen products for bakers.

Of the models we put through rigorous testing, Orblue Pastry Cutter is the best pastry cutter and biscuit cutter. We chose it because of its ability to handle a number of tasks well, the tough stainless steel construction, its comfortable, high-quality rubber no-slip grip, the handy measuring marks included on the blade, and for being dishwasher-safe. Keep reading to see what else made our list.

Top 6 Best Pastry Cutters

 #1  Orblue Pastry Cutter

Award: TOP PICK

WHY WE LIKE IT: It’s a heavy-duty tool made with care and precision that’s incredibly useful both for baking and cooking and couldn’t be easier both to handle and clean, with a dishwasher safe design

Pros
  • Dishwasher safe for easy cleanup
  • Great as a food scraper and for slicing vegetables
  • Handy measurement markings on blade
Cons
  • Too large and heavy for precise pastry use

The Orblue Pastry Scraper and Cutter is a top-of-the-line baking and cooking multitool constructed out of high-quality stainless steel with a super-comfortable no-slip rubber grip, convenient inch measurement markings, and a super durable blade that won’t dull easily. It’s dishwasher safe and also easy to hand wash with soap and water.

It’s great as a dough cutter for pizza dough, most pastries, fresh pasta, and it’s one of the best biscuit cutters we tried, but it’s also just as good for chopping vegetables and ground meat quickly and efficiently and as a food scraper either for scraping your chopped ingredients into a bowl or clearing your chopping block into the trash before you wash it off. Some people may prefer just using the best chopper for this. The printed measuring markers on the blade are great for getting precise cuts and although it’s less suitable for smaller, more precise work like ravioli and other filled pasta, its amazing versatility, durability, quality of construction, and value make it a great single-tool solution whether you’re making fresh biscuits or stir fry. You can also get the best paper towels just in case you make a mess when baking.

#2  Anmarko Griddle Scraper Pastry Cutter

Award: HONORABLE MENTION

WHY WE LIKE IT: It features a heavy-duty stainless steel blade, that is great for cutting a variety of ingredients, with a no-slip rubber grip and a design that is dishwasher safe.

Pros
  • Built-in measurement markers
  • No-slip rubber grip
  • Dishwasher safe
Cons
  • Slightly more care needed to clean than similar model

The Anmarko Griddle Scraper Chopper is made out of 100% stainless steel with a rubber no-slip grip, features inch measurement markings on its thin-but-durable blade, and is dishwasher safe in a gentle cycle using only soap and no harsh chemicals. The blade is thin enough to make it great for cleaning grease off griddles, but its main use is as a sturdy dough cutter and food chopper- though it’s also handy for clearing food off chopping blocks.

It’s more delicate and requires slightly more care to clean than the Orblue (gentle cycle in the dishwasher and no harsh cleaning chemicals), but it’s still a durable, versatile tool that’s easy and safe to handle and will find a lot of use in any busy chef or baker’s kitchen.  #3  Homy Feel Round Cookie Biscuit Pastry Cutter

Award: BEST FOR LARGE BAKED GOODS

WHY WE LIKE IT: It’s a quality set of 12 ideal for making larger desserts and treats that’s designed to be exceptionally safe, comfortable, and easy to use.

Pros
  • Lightweight and durable stainless steel construction
  • All pieces oven-tested up to 500 degrees
  • Stackable design takes up little space
Cons
  • Not useful for chopping vegetables or scraping
  • Can be bent or dented with careless use

The Homy Feel Round Cookie Biscuit Cutter Set comes with 12 stainless-steel, dishwasher-safe circle cutters ranging from 1” – 1 1/4” to 4” -4.4” in diameter and 1.18” high, and one stainless steel container. The circle cutters are perfect for cookies, cakes, biscuits, scones, and even pastas, empanadas, and frying eggs. Every component is dishwasher safe and oven-tested for up to 500 degrees F.

It’s a comprehensive set that’s especially good for cookies, biscuits, and other circle-cut baked goods and while it can be used for some other non-baking applications, it won’t function as an option for fine chopping and scraping. The rolled top edges protect your fingers while in use, meaning they’re relatively safe for kids, and the Russian-doll style package design makes them easy to store without taking up much room. It’s a great set for any baking enthusiast who doesn’t have a need for a food chopper. If you’re missing a chopper, you may want to read our guide to the best avocado slicer too.

 #4  Norpro Grip-EZ Pastry Cutter/Ravioli Pastry Cutter

Award: BEST FOR FRESH PASTA

WHY WE LIKE IT: Its two blades are perfect for delicate work such as making fresh pasta, it’s a breeze to clean and care for, and its ergonomically-designed grip won’t slide out of your hand.

Pros
  • Soft, no-slip santoprene handle
  • Stainless steel dual-wheel design
  • Dishwasher safe
Cons
  • Small blades do not excel with larger baked goods

The Norpro Grip-EZ Pastry/Ravioli Wheel is made of 100% stainless steel with a soft no-slip santoprene handle featuring a convenient hanger cutout for easy storage. Its two blade design features one straight-cut pastry cutter wheel and a scalloped-edge wheel for making ravioli edges, latticed pie crusts, and other textured pastry and fresh pasta work. It’s dishwasher safe or easily hand washable with soap and water.

It’s an excellent tool for creating fine pastries and various fresh pasta, and for normal dough cutting work for cookies, biscuits, bread and the like, but the small blades aren’t that suitable for larger baked goods and it’s not usable as a scraper or chopper. It’s a great value for anyone making delicate or pastries and pasta that require precision and it’s easy and safe to use for beginners and seasoned bakers alike. The 4-blade dough blender is perfect for making pie crust and mixing dough the way professionals do, while the pastry scraper can be used as a dough cutter, griddle and cutting block scraper, and for chopping veggies and ground meat. The biscuit cutter set comes in five sizes from 1 ¾” to 3 ¼” diameter and is great for cutting out biscuits, cookies, scones, dumplings, pasta, and more, and each one has a heavy-duty built-in handle for safe cutting.

Each tool has multiple measurement markings and the dough blender and dough scraper both feature soft, non-slip handles.  #6  KSPOWWIN 5 Piece Stainless Steel Pastry Cutters

Award: BEST FOR KIDS

WHY WE LIKE IT: Designed with safety in mind, with rolled top ends to keep hands away from sharp blades, and offering a good range of sizes. It’s a perfect starter set of baking tools for young people and beginners.

Pros
  • No sharp parts; safe for small fingers
  • Rolled top ends keep hands away from blades
  • Drawer-space-saving design
Cons
  • Can’t be used for fine pastry detail work or food chopping and scraping

The KSPOWWIN 5 Piece Stainless Steel Cookie Cutter set consists of five stainless steel cookie and biscuit circle cutters in 3.3”, 2.9”, 2.5”, 2”, and 1.7” diameter and 1.26” high sizes. They each feature rolled-steel top ends to keep hands away from blades and fully welded seams with no sharp edges, and are easy to clean and dishwasher safe.

It’s a simple, pared-down set of circle cutters great for cookies, biscuits, scones, simple pasta shapes, dumplings, and other such applications. Though they’re not suited for vegetable chopping, scraping, or fine pastry detail work, they’re a great, inexpensive set of quality, long-lasting, safe and easy to use baking tools for getting kids into the kitchen or beginners looking to start simple.

How We Decided

There are pastry cutters for a wide range of uses and an even wider range of quality and value, and while you could spend a fortune buying highly specialized boutique tools for each conceivable purpose- be it dough cutters, cookie cutters, pastry wheels, etc, you could save a lot of money, time, and kitchen space by finding a good tool that will handle a number of different jobs.

For this reason, for the purposes of our list, we preferred pastry cutters that excelled at a number of different applications, were made of the highest quality stainless steel and rubber (where applicable), and were a good value.

We also liked pastry cutters that featured comfortable, no-slip grips, made of soft rubbers or synthetics, were easy to clean or even dishwasher safe, were durable enough for long-term frequent use, and featured clever storage designs such as circle cutters that could be put together Russian doll-style and handles with hook hangers built-in.

We also liked bladed tools with added safety features such as rolled or unsharpened non-cutting edges and welded seams, making them safe and easy for kids to use.

Finally, we liked tools that could be used for more than just baking, or that could replace multiple tools, like dough cutter/scrapers that functioned equally well for chopping vegetables and ground meat, clearing off kitchen surfaces and cutting boards for washing, or clearing grease off griddles.

Best Pastry Cutter Buyer’s Guide

The Most Important Features to Consider

  1. Good For A Variety Of Uses
Although professional chefs, bakers, and pastry chefs will tend to have a large collection of expensive kitchen tools made expressly for one application, most people will have neither the space nor need for a huge number of tools they may rarely use- not to mention the inclination to spend a fortune on them. For this reason, it’s a good idea to look at pastry cutters that can serve a number of different purposes and are well-made and durable but affordable. The Norpro Grip-EZ Pastry/Ravioli Wheel, for example, is great for making filled pasta like ravioli, but can also be used for making any number of pastries, biscuits, and cookies, making it a tool you’ll use more often than something purpose-built for one job.
  2. Easily Cleaned
Baking can be messy, and the last thing you need is a pastry tool that’s a chore to clean- that’s why it’s a good idea to make sure whichever tool you buy is easily hand-washed with soap and water in the sink, or better-yet, dishwasher safe. Fortunately, most affordable pastry cutters will be without sacrificing durability or performance.
  3. Comfortable, No-Slip Handle
Pastry cutters are made to cut and form a dough, and while they don’t need to be as sharp as a knife to do that, they can still be sharp. You also don’t want your tool slipping out of your hands while you work and creating a huge mess- that’s why a pastry cutter ideally will feature a comfortable, no-slip handle that’s safe for washing. These are usually made out of rubber or similar synthetic material, though that detail can vary.
  4. High-Quality Stainless Steel
It somewhat goes along with “easy to clean”, but a pastry cutter made of the highest quality stainless steel will last longer, perform better, and be easier to clean than one made of a softer or cheaper metal or plastic, so it’s best to stick to stainless steel options, especially for the cutting edge. Some pastry cutters are made with plastics, ceramics, or cheaper metals like aluminum, but they don’t necessarily have the track record of performance and durability that stainless steel does.

Pastry Cutter FAQs

What’s the best all-around tool for baking?

Pastry wheel cutters, dough cutters, dough mixers, and circle biscuit and cookie cutters are all arguably essential tools for the serious baking enthusiast, but if you’re going to choose just one tool that offers the most amount of uses, a single, straight-blade dough cutter is the way to go, since a quality one will allow you to cut doughs of all kinds, scrape and clean griddles and chopping blocks, and is even better than a knife for chopping vegetables and ground meat, meaning it’s not just a baking tool but a great all-around kitchen tool.

Do I need a dough mixer?

Making pie crusts and certain other kinds of dough often requires the use of cold butter pressed and mixed directly into non-liquid room temperature ingredients- while a fork or two can do the job, it’s a far more difficult, hand-straining, time-consuming way to get the job done, so at the very least, for making great pie crusts, a dedicated multi-bladed dough mixer is practically a must.

What’s the best pastry and dough cutter?

The best pastry and dough cutter we’ve found is the Orblue Pastry Scraper and Cutter- it’s dishwasher safe, and its heavy-duty construction, ergonomically-designed no-slip handle, measuring markers, and sturdy, sharp stainless steel blade make it stand out as both a dough cutter and a food chopper and scraper. Another great product that nearly made our list is the K&S Artisan Pastry Cutter Set.

What is a good biscuit cutter substitute?

If you’re looking to save money on not buying a dedicated biscuit or circle cutter, the rim of a large cup- preferably metal- will do fine in many cases. Make sure the cup is clean and cry and spray the rim with non-stick cooking spray or grease with butter before pressing into dough. It may not cut the dough as easily, but it’ll do a serviceable job without taking up more drawer space.
