Outdoor Vitals is no stranger to high quality sleeping bags. The Summit 0°F in particular is one of the best sleeping bags for its warmth, snug and comfortable mummy bag design, and it’s ultralight backpacking nature. This is the kind of sleeping bag you need for camping in cold weather, considering its performance.

Why We Like It – Outdoors Vital Review

Outdoor Vitals’ Summit 0°F Sleeping Bag provides the perfect option for year round camping thanks to its ability to withstand low temperature ratings, while keeping you warm and comfortable. And for lighting up your camping experience, read our review of how Joby lights it up again with GorillaTorch Switchback.

Pros
  • Excellent for all seasons
  • Variety of sizes
  • Lifetime warranty
Cons
  • Restrictive design isn’t for everyone
  • Have to fight the compression bag occasionally

Performance

Outdoor Vitals’ Summit 0°F is tough against weather, being able to withstand temperature ratings as low as—you guessed it—0°F or -17.78°C if you prefer Celsius. That’s much lower than Western Mountaineering’s Summerlite Mummy 32F.

What makes the Outdoor Vitals Summit 0°F so light is its 800+ fill power down. A smart move was made by moving a bit of the down around the back and adding it to the bottom, where your feet would be, for warmer feet. When you’re cold, warm feet are necessary for sleep. And with it being water-resistant, you’ll stay warm and cozy when condensation comes knocking.

With that said, packing the sleeping bag is rarely a problem. You’ll have to be precise or else you end up fighting the compression bag.

Design

The Outdoor Vitals Summit 0°F is compact in design. As for the shape, it adopts the same shape as the ancient pharaohs of Egypt—the so-called “mummy” sleeping bag. This shape allows for heat to stay trapped for a long period of time.

However, unlike Winner Outfitters Mummy Sleeping Bag or the Teton Sports Leef 0, the Summit adds just a bit more space, enough to give you some room. The length varies with the shortest size limited to individuals no taller than 5’6”, and the longest limited to individuals no taller than 6’6”.

Value

There’s a lot of value in the Outdoor Vitals Summit 0°F. Given its performance and comfort—especially being usable all year round—it’s fairly priced around $250. However, you may want to consider investing in a sleeping pad when it reaches 0 degrees Fahrenheit. Its sizes lend itself to being accessible to larger bodies. And it goes without saying: a lifetime warranty is absolutely superb. You’ll need it for the amount of use you get out of it.

Outdoors Vital Review Wrap Up

Venturing into temperatures at 0 degrees Fahrenheit, you won’t find a better companion than the Outdoor Vitals Summit 0°F. Its high quality performance makes it a dream to slip into for the night. Dealing with the compression bag is one thing, but if you’re claustrophobic, you’ll want to steer away from this sleeping bag; otherwise the Summit 0°F is positively excellent for any season. Having a lifetime warranty and various sizes is icing on the cake.
