When entering the drone world and looking for the best drones for beginners, you’ll probably be looking for a drone that is not too fast and has some extra durability features on it. The Syma X5C is that drone. An entry-level drone through and through, the X5C is perfect to get some piloting experience. It may not be the best drone available, but it will work well for beginners.
Why We Like It – Syma X5C
The Syma X5C is about as entry-level and beginner as a drone can get. And that’s not necessarily a bad thing. Everybody has to start somewhere, right? The 11 miles per hour top speed is fast enough for you to get your bearings and the propeller guards add an extra layer of safety for if, or when, you crash.

Speed/Power
The Syma X5C is a zippy little drone capable of reaching a max speed of about 11 miles per hour. While that may be slower than most other drones in its class, it is a perfect speed for a beginning flyer. If you do want something faster, check out the Holy Stone HS100. The X5C is a simple quadcopter with simple controls that are powerful enough to handle some light wind. Range
Flight time on the X5c isn’t stellar, to say the least. You’ll get about seven to ten minutes worth of time on the drone before you’ll need to charge the battery. This is roughly the same as the Parrot Mambo Fly. To add insult to injury, charge time is 90 minutes, which is an unnoticeable ratio. On the plus side, the operational range of the X5C is 100 feet which, considering it’s a beginner drone, is more than acceptable.
Durability
As a beginner drone, the X5C isn’t the most durable, but the people at Syma have taken steps to ensure its safety. And we appreciate that. It comes with prop guards, so the propellers don’t get damaged if you run into something. Every part on the X5C is available for purchase as well, if you find yourself in need of one. Syma has even included a print manual and diagram to break it all down.
Camera Features
Unlike the Yuneec Breeze 4K, the image quality on the camera isn’t the best, but at 720P it should still be able to take some half-decent pictures. Again, for a beginner drone, this is more than acceptable. One downside, though, is that the X5C doesn’t come with any stabilization, so prepare yourself for some shaky results. Value
The X5C comes with a 4GB SD card for storage, which is something not normally seen on an entry-level drone. The remote control has trim settings and is easy to use according to many customer reviews but can sometimes get stuck and skew the drone in one direction. But if you prefer to use your phone for drone control, you can do that instead.
Syma X5C Wrap Up
While not meant for anything other than getting your wings, the Syma X5C can still introduce you to the joys of aerial photography, even if it is at a scaled-down quality. The battery life is expected, but the charging time is not and could be vastly improved upon.
